February 2023 | Governor's Message

The Host Organizing Committee is very excited to welcome Rotary members and guests to Boracay for the 2023 Annual Convention of Rotary International District 3850.

Known as one of the world’s greatest Places of 2022 according to the prestigious yearly list of the international magazine TIME, Boracay was originally inhabited by the Tumandok and Ati people. Commercial development, however, has led to the severe marginalization of these indigenous people since the 1970s. But the government, through laws, has been protective of these people and the continuous improvement of the island will also benefit them.

Apart from its white sand beaches, Boracay is also famous for being one of the world's top destinations for relaxation and has emerged as a top destination for both tranquility and nightlife. Boracay was named the top island in Asia at the 2022 Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards. The island earned a rating of 95.13, as seen on the US-based luxury and lifestyle travel magazine’s website. Palawan only ranks eight.

This three-day district convention will have a fabulous Opening Ceremony. General plenary sessions, where Rotarians will be joined by invited Top Caliber Speakers, will be anticipated. A rotary convention will not be complete without the much-awaited fellowship night and the Governor’s Ball. There will also be trade exhibits and more activities for everyone during the entire duration of the DISCON 2022.

Fellow Rotarians, we hope this becomes an event that everyone can enjoy. May it be an avenue to rekindle old friendships and celebrate the good deeds of Rotary.

We can imagine Rotarians of Fun District 3850 together this summer!
